Clinical Consultant & Public Health Advocate

Delivering frontline acute medical care, digital innovation, and objective diagnostic audits in the East Midlands.

Biographical Bio

I am a practicing Emergency Medicine Consultant based at King's Mill Hospital, part of the Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in the East Midlands, UK. Driven by a commitment to quality improvement and system efficiency, I combine clinical frontline shifts in high-intensity urgent settings with administrative oversight.

Outside of patient triage and acute interventions, my responsibilities span clinical governance as a Medical Examiner, where I support medical review and bereavement services. As a Digital Transformation Lead, I work to integrate tech-based optimizations and streamline patient pathways to make care both safer and more resilient under pressure.

"Ex Fluctibus Tranquillitas" (Out of the waves, calmness) β€” a guiding principle both in navigating the stormy seas of emergency department rushes, and in running the training paths of Nottinghamshire.

Emergency Medicine & System Triage

My main clinical hours are dedicated to directing high-acuity shifts in the Emergency Department. This involves clinical supervision of junior medical and nursing staff, rapid triage strategies under heavy service loads, and specialized focus on acute cardiac algorithms and resuscitations.

As a Digital Lead, I act as the bridge between clinical workflows and technical tools, helping deploy system-wide electronic patient record systems (EPR) and testing decision-support algorithms.

Public Health Core Training

I hold a Postgraduate Certificate in Public Health from Nottingham Trent University (awarded in 2023). This training has equipped me to view emergency medicine from a systemic, preventative framework rather than just acute treatment.

  • Integrated preventative frameworks for emergency admissions.
  • Epidemiological insights into winter hospital pressures.
  • Analysis of socio-demographic variations in patient access.
  • Health policy formulation for local populations.

Suspected Scaphoid Fracture Audits

In 2025, I was pleased to support and contribute to clinical audit research reviewing early diagnosis protocols for suspected scaphoid wrist injuries.

The retrospective study, titled "Auditing the Early Management of Suspected Scaphoid Fractures in Comparison With the National Agreed Standard", aimed to align diagnostic efficiency, documentation standards, and follow-up intervals with nationally agreed protocols. My role focused on identifying eligible patient cohorts and improving ED immobilization pathways.

Quality Improvement (QI) Focus

At Sherwood Forest Hospitals, I actively work with the Improvement Faculty to embed patient involvement into clinical audits.

  • Clinical lead for patient-facing digital communication tools.
  • Auditing the implementation of version 2 ALS tachycardia protocols.
  • Structuring digital workflows for Medical Examiner reviews to reduce death certificate processing lag.
  • Leading root-cause analysis audits for emergency department discharge delays.

My Fundraising Story

Once upon a time I ran half-marathons... but then a global pandemic, a growing family, and a demanding Consultant job all intervened!

In an attempt to give myself additional motivation and to get back into long-distance running, I am training for the **Derby Half Ramathon** on **28 June 2026**. I'm running for charity to support my home hospital - **King’s Mill Hospital, Newark Hospital, and Mansfield Community Hospital**.

Every penny raised enables us to enhance and improve patient care, fund premium medical equipment, and provide clinical space upgrades to make patient stays more comfortable.

Rainy. Four hours of sleep from on-call so obviously going to go running like every Saturday. Getting those kilometers in for the Derby Half Ramathon! πŸŒ§οΈπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈ #TooTiredToThinkOfAMotivationalHashtag

Interesting how much trouble a little box with text can cause. In the new ALS tachycardia algorithm, the "VT / is it VT?" box is confusing enough that it's already been amended in version 2, but also asks for procainamide (no UK license, so sourcing is interesting!).
